Viking Hood

This is my adapted variation of the Norwegian Skjoldehamn hood found in 1936. A pattern is a simplified form of Løvlid, D. H.’s research.

Production

Before cutting them from the fabric, I sketched the progress and how the pieces shall align. I have used black 100% linen in both cases.

After cutting the pieces out, I aligned them as planned and pin all the edges together. Make sure to leave the “face hole.”

Both times the hood was requested quickly, so I used the machine to sew all pieces together. I left a 0.75-inch seam allowance to fold and hem the edges.

After that, I took the bamboo mix with wool and used the running stitch to hem the edges. Before running the stitch, I folded the edges and steamed them to ensure firmness.

I used the chain stitch with golden wool all around the bottom, again on the folded and pressed edge.
Central pieces embroidered with various wool colors represented the requested arms.
